Program Availability

The Gender and the Workplace Certificate program is open to currently enrolled students who wish to increase their employability. The program is especially suited for students in the Multidisciplinary BA/BS program, and for those interested in learning more about gender studies. Students should consult with their advisors before enrolling in courses to ensure suitability and to plan their program of study.

Program Highlights

Students in the Gender and the Workplace Certificate program develop an advanced understanding of gender as it relates to workplace situations. With engaging discussions about relevant, real-world topics and issues, the curriculum invites students to broaden their perspectives on gender, sexuality, social class systems, and race as they relate to career options, aspirations, work-life balance, and other common workplace environments.

Courses

The Gender and the Workplace Certificate program consists of nine course credits, with an additional six credits in elective courses. Courses introduce students to gender studies and LGBTQ+ studies. In the elective courses, students may choose from among the following topics:

  • Gender and Economics
  • Topics in Race, Class, and Gender in U.S. History
  • Work-Life Integration
  • Introduction to Nonprofit Leadership and Management
  • Work, Employment, and Society
  • Gender Stratification

Transfer Credit

Indiana State University accepts credit from regionally accredited colleges and universities within the United States, and from selected schools located outside the United States. Credit also may be granted for military training and experience. Previously earned college credit can be applied toward completion of the program per Indiana State's transfer guidelines.

Successful completion of the Gender and the Workplace Certificate program prepares students for leadership roles in nonprofit organizations, human resource management, and related fields where students support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs. Students also are prepared for a variety of graduate programs.
